1

day - Marangu Gate to Mandara Huts

Departing from Arusha, a 45-minute drive takes you through the village of Machame to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate. While we wait for our permits to be processed, you’ll observe the lively preparations of other trekking crews. As you begin your trek, enjoy the stunning rainforest scenery and winding trails, with your guide sharing insights on local flora, fauna, and wildlife. At these lower elevations, the trail can be muddy and slippery, so we highly recommend using gaiters and trekking poles for added safety and comfort.

2

day - Mandara Huts to Horombo Huts

After a restful night and a hearty breakfast, we leave the rainforest behind and start our climb through the heathlands, where giant lobelias and groundsels may catch your eye. As we ascend into the open moorlands, low shrubs dominate the landscape. We stop for lunch with breathtaking views of Mawenzi Peak before continuing on to Horombo Huts. Arriving in the late afternoon, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of Kibo Summit. As we gain altitude, the temperature begins to drop, marking our entry into higher, more rugged terrain.

3

day - Horombo Huts

You will spend a full day and a second night at Horombo Hut for acclimatization. On this day, you can either rest and relax at the huts or take a short hike to Mawenzi Base Camp, returning to Horombo afterward. This extra day allows your body to adjust to the altitude and helps you better understand the mountain’s weather and conditions. After this acclimatization pause, you’ll continue your journey on Day 4, ascending to Kibo Hut in preparation for your midnight summit attempt.

4

day - Horombo Huts to Kibo Huts

After breakfast, we press on through the waning heathland, which slowly gives way to a stark moonscape as we approach the expansive saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. During our lunch break, you’ll have the chance to take in the sweeping views of the saddle. As we traverse this vast terrain, you’ll also be able to spot the summit route on Kibo, which you’ll soon embark on in just a few hours.

5

day - Kibo Huts to Summit to Horombo Huts

Day 4 is the summit day on your Kilimanjaro trek via the Marangu Route, an exciting and challenging day. You will begin your ascent from Kibo Hut around midnight or early morning to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. The climb starts with a steep and rocky trail, passing through challenging scree slopes and snow-covered paths. After hours of determination and perseverance, you’ll reach the iconic Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters, where you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views and a sense of accomplishment like no other. After spending a brief moment at the summit for photos and celebrations, you’ll begin your descent back down to Horombo Hut. The descent is steep, and you’ll stop for a well-deserved break at Kibo Hut before continuing down to Horombo. By late afternoon or evening, you’ll arrive at Horombo Hut to rest and recover, completing one of the most rewarding days of your adventure.

day - Horombo Huts to Marangu Gate

After breakfast and a heartfelt ceremony to appreciate your crew, it’s time to say goodbye. We begin our descent, stopping at Mandara Huts for a well-deserved lunch.
